Before I Formed Thee
Jeremiah 1:5 (KJB) Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
This verse gives us a picture of the presence and work of God before a person is physically born into this world. Yes, you read that right, before we are formed by God or birthed into this world, we were on His mind. You see, this verse tells us He knew us before birth and had a plan for our life prepared.
Now, in the context of this verse, it is the prophet Jeremiah who God is speaking to, telling him that He knew everything about him, even before forming him. God told Jeremiah that he was ordained by Him to be a prophet to the nations. God had a plan designed specifically for his life.
We also understand that God had a plan prepared for His Son, Jesus Christ.
Indeed, we understand that God has a blueprint for every life before any person is formed and birthed into this world. Though we may not be directed, like Jeremiah, to reach nations, He desires we reach neighbors, friends, and family about us in this world.
Though God has already revealed everything in His Word, including all prophecy, before forming us, we understand that He has a specific will for each of us to accomplish by relying upon His presence and power. It is important to note that God does not collar any person into following His will. God desires that each of us choose to heed and follow His divine direction wherever it may lead.
