Beware of Covetousness
Luke 12:15 (KJB) And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
This world is full of people who are trying to keep up with the Joneses. These kinds of people are always unsatisfied with their lot in life. They continually set their eyes on something bigger and better which somebody else already has never learning contentment with what they have at any given moment. The grass is always greener, and the toys are always bigger just around the corner for a covetous person.
Dissatisfaction is a major spiritual issue that cannot ever be solved with the addition of more things. A person cannot build a successful life around the accumulation of worldly stuff. Anyone who is looking to fulfill his every whim and desire with the accumulation material goods is on a fast track to greater and greater unhappiness and trouble rather than finding happiness and satisfaction.
Placing one’s eyes upon things of this world rather than upon God always leads to discontentment and is a serious spiritual matter. Choosing to do so allows a person’s possessions to possess him rather than allowing God to have spiritual control of his heart and mind for His holy help in regulating thoughts and desires.
A man and woman of God should take heed of the important message from God found in this verse. Not only to hear this necessary message but to apply it into their life by choosing to be aware of the proper place of possessions and of the presence and power of God willing and working in their heart and mind.
