Biblically Based Role of Men and Women

To understand the roles in life God gave to both man and woman we must start at the beginning to build upon the foundation God set in place.

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. (Genesis 2:18 KJV)

Man was created by God first and in His image.  Woman was created out of a rib from the side of man as a help meet for him by God.  God understood that man needed companionship and fellowship which would never be possible from any creature who roamed the earth; thus God created woman from man for this purpose.  She was created to help meet his needs as He lived unto God.

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. (Genesis 2:23 KJV).

Adam named the first woman, his helpmeet, Eve.

Adam and Eve lived together in The Garden of Eden.  This garden was perfect and man and woman were perfectly paired; meeting each other’s needs as they innocently resided together in their natural nakedness without shame.  Their lives were in a perfect triangle relationship with God at the head, as they lived in perfect harmony in a spiritual relationship with God; both having a personal relationship with God who walked with them in the garden.

The lush garden environment provided Adam and Eve all necessary sustenance and nourishment necessary to survive physically in this paradise.  Adam and Eve ate of the plants and were vegetarians; not eating meat of animals.  This was the perfect plan of God for man and woman to live in this garden environment in a personal relationship with God.  Adam had been given everything needed to sustain physical life: water, food, light, heat in this tropical paradise where both He and Eve could personally meet with God.

God had given Adam all instruction and knowledge needed for living this perfect life in the perfect setting upon this earth.

Adam was given one rule of God’s authority to live by: “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it…”  before Eve was ever known about by Adam or formed by the hand of God.

Adam, being the head of woman, was held personally responsible by God for the physical and spiritual lives of both he and Eve.  Eve was created for Adam as his helpmeet in meeting various natural demands of living life upon this earth.  Adam lived under the authority of God following the one command God gave to him.  God gave Adam one commandment to observe and fulfill.

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:16-17 KJV)

For this reason God is the head of man, man is the head of woman who was created from man; and woman is to be the helpmeet for man; assisting him in living successfully upon this earth.  She is not to rule over him but to help him meet the will of God as they reside together upon this earth.  It is not about meeting the demands of a husband or meeting the demands of a wife; rather it is dwelling together and meeting the will of God bringing honor and glory to Him.
