Come, Take, Learn
Matthew 11:28-30 (KJV) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Jesus is speaking here to hurting hearts during His earthly ministry, additionally to suffering souls this day. Jesus knew firsthand that this life is full of troubles and trials. He also understands that life is not meant to be lived alone. Or that humanity should carry his or her burdens.
Jesus is eternally tied God and His Spirit and operates seamlessly now, and as He carried on with His earthly ministry in ancient times. Jesus Christ did not try to bear His troubles alone but immediately came to his Father in prayer. We should employ His example in reaching out for help in fulfilling the will of God in our own life.
Jesus wants each of us to personally come to Him, to take from His unending well of provision, grace, and direction, to learn His character and perfecting way. However, sadly, many professing hearts attempt to live in this wicked world apart from the power and presence of God. They strive to live a “do-it-yourself” kind of Christian life. Instead of handing over trials, temptations, and issues of life to God and asking for His input and direction, they hold on to them, trying to figure out their burdens on their own accord.
This limited mindset is like attempting to carry numerous heavy pieces of luggage through a bustling airport in a pathetic attempt to meet a connection at a faraway gate. This kind of rush most often ends with a person breathless and likely way short of reaching such an impossible goal to board this next flight. Ultimately such a rushed passenger can be left with nothing more than a missed connection, breathless, and long day of travel in an attempt to make his journey and to reach his destination.
So it is with a personal relationship with Jesus. Though anyone can attempt on their own to figure a path forward through tough situations, carry needless burdens, and to exist apart from God, this kind of life often results in a harried life, unnecessary heaviness, and pointless woes that God wants to carry for us. All we need to do is let go and for His help and direction. Do not miss a critical eternal connection with Him because you fail to heed his call and ask for guidance and direction.
