Consider Your Role
Acts 20:28 (KJB) Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
This scripture verse contains an important warning for preachers. Caution was given, and is relevant today, concerning the necessity of taking note of what was said coupled together with the flock and leadership of a church paying close attention. In otherwards, It was a direct warning collectively to listen closely to what was to be revealed then and for our learning today.
This message was that they were to feed God’s church. Certainly, this does not point to forming a buffet line around assembled crockpots of food as is done in numerous churches (especially Baptist Churches) for special occasions, seasons, and celebrations, although occasional fellowship is a wonderful and necessary thing!
Rather, this directive was in line with the spiritual feeding of their souls that Jesus Christ has purchased with every drop of His precious shed blood. Yes, a shed blood animal sacrifice was no longer necessary because Jesus Christ was willing to follow the will of His Father and shed His precious blood as a substitutionary death for all sin and to rise again in eternal victory over death.
You see, every person, in the congregation needs to hear this message, to learn about sin, death, and the possibility of eternal life. A pastor who fails to deliver this message to his flock and encouraging them to feed the community at large and has failed to deliver his duty as an overseer of God’s church and to sow seeds of the gospel message to hungry hearts about him and to lead his congregation to do the same.
Sadly, there are churches where God’s message is not preached. There are pastors who have failed their flocks and flocks who have failed to take the “spiritual baton” they’ve been taught and sow seeds into their surroundings and communities in this world. There are congregations who have failed to reach lost hearts with the gospel message.
Please, take heed, listen, and consider your role in sending forth the Truth of God into the lives of people, whether you are a pastor, part of a congregation, or a leader placed in a position of deacon in overseeing the day to day activities, functions, and events of a genuine godly church.
