Corrupt Messengers

Jeremiah 23:16-17 (KJV) Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.

Undoubtedly, just like today- there are God-sent messengers as well as those who appoint themselves as a messenger.  Self-appointed men will twist and sculpt God’s message into a message of their own making.  In other words, false prophets litter the landscape of this world, then and today.

Knowing there are false messages clarifies why each of us should decipher each sermon we hear and capture with our mind and heart.  We are not called to believe what a man in a pulpit has to say. Instead, we are to check what we hear against what God tells us in His Word.  Indeed, the truths of God will pass from the pulpit, through His Word, and into the minds and hearts of humanity with flying colors.  On the other hand, a deceitful message from a crafty orator will fall short of aligning with truths given by God.

There will always be men who speak from their own heart, along with messengers given by God.  We must sort the truths from the lies by using God’s Word as a filter.  Doing this allows only the peace and truth of God to fall into our hearts and mind, keeping God’s message pure and unadulterated and away from the lies of this world.
