Curious Art Books Burned
Acts 19:17-20 (KJB) And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. 18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. 19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
The Word of God grew and matured in what was once lost and spiritually wayward hearts. These newly spiritually regenerated ancient people, greatly knowledgeable about things of this world, gathered together to serve and savor God, deciding to rid their lfe of occultic art books once held near and dear to their hearts. These dark items were no longer appealing to their new nature.
Perhaps you can relate to this shedding of once dearly held favorites soon after you came into the spiritual family of God through faith. These people had cherished these books with an occultic origin but chose to burn them and rid their lives of serving this devilish influence as God changed their heart and the direction of their life.
Maybe it was not occultic books you gave up, but it was drinking, smoking, hanging out with the wrong crowd, sensual sins, or whatever personal pet sins stood in the way of your enjoyment of sweet personal fellowship and growth inside your spiritual relationship with God.
When these new Christians chose to serve God and to allow God to remove the dross of sin from their life, the Bible tells us that they grew mightily in the Word of God and He prevailed. Perhaps you find yourself fledgling in your walk with God because you are holding onto favorite sin when God desires to ban it and burn it from your life blessing you greatly in return.
