David Asked God for The Motherlode!
Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’s sake: for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble. And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant. (Psalm 143:10-12 KJV)
What a prayer by David to God!
David did not just ask for something small and simple. David asked for the “spiritual motherlode.”
David asked for four separate things as spelled out in these verses in heartfelt prayer to God. These things would work together in the life of David for bringing God glory and honor.
Teach me to do thy will…
lead me into the land of uprightness…
for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble…
And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies…
David desired to be pleasing to God with his life. He knew that bringing these desires to pass would only be available through the power of God dwelling and working in his life.
The desire for honoring God was David’s but only God could bring it to pass. David was able to receive the spiritual goodness and knowledge of God through having a softened heart filled with the presence of God.
