Delivered Unto Satan
1 Timothy 1:20 (KJB) Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
In this short verse, the Apostle Paul is busy rousing up some serious spiritual business. He chooses to hand two men over to satan. Certainly, Paul would not take this somber move lightly, or without good cause and direction from God. These men, Hymenaeus and Alexander, committed a serious sin(s) which warranted stern chastisement.
Certainly, the hope was that these men would be moved to see the error of their way after being subject to the dark and devilish wiles of satan for a time. However, when any man faces attacks from satan, he either falls flat or determines in his heart to stand spiritually tall in the power of God.
The man or woman who has faced tough spiritual discipline can go in one of only two directions. Closer to God or farther away.
Chastisement is meant for bringing man closer to God. However, this only takes place in a heart softened by God. For those with a sin-hardened heart structure and discipline places them further from God and Truth.
