Matthew 17:19-21 (KJB) Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
These verses above are significant for each of us to be familiar with and to employ against the enemy in the ongoing battle against evil forces present in this world. You see, God has given His spiritual family everything necessary for good spiritual heath and provided direction in dealing with and in eradicating satan and his forces.
God’s antidote to the presence of great evil and wickedness can easily be found within the pages of His Word, including these verses above, and many others; including the necessity of wearing His spiritual armor as is found in chapter six of the book of Ephesians. Also, for each us to carry His Word in our heart (Psalm 119:11), and for each of us to be ready to yield His Truth like a knife (Hebrews 4:12) in our frequent clashes with evil.
Every regenerated person can stand spiritually firm and strong inside God’s unlimited supernatural strength and power when faced with the presence and power of evil. A child of God can choose to follow His divinely cleared pathway, wear His provided battle gear, and to speak with His sharp and often cutting Word. Yes, the original, one-hundred percent God-breathed scripture as was recorded for our direction, spiritual protection, and in the destruction of wickedness.
However, in many instances, as we have found here in the seventeenth chapter of Matthew; modern correctors have left out a critical verse. Sadly, I bet it does not surprise you that in some updated versions, the twenty-first verse of Matthew chapter seventeen, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting…”has been struck from their copyrighted and adulterated record. Yes, God’s perpetual power packed punch in facing evil battles, is missing in some restructured Bible per-versions. God’s proven antidote for removal of evil, prayer and fasting is both ageless, powerful, and vital to know in our spiritual journey as we sojourn in this world.
Yes, dear children of God, prayer, and fasting is significant in the battle against evil. The presence of evil is limited and affected by these vital spiritual tools. God will always be infinite and all-powerful above and beyond anything satan can dish out towards you. By placing faith in the supernatural power and presence of God and His Son Jesus Christ, a person can rest in trials and troubles by giving God honor, offering heartfelt prayer, and in practicing spiritual offense and in fasting as skirmishes brew from the many forces of evil dwelling in this dark world.
