Disgusted with Disbelief of Israel
Hebrews 3:7-11 (KJB) Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. 10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. 11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
God was disgusted with the disobedience and rampant disbelief of the nation of Israel in Old Testament times. God divinely provided direction, food, water, shoes that did not wear out, and everything needed for their journey, but these overtly sinful and selfish people were never satisfied with their given lot in life and especially with the generously provided goodness and grace of God.
After a time, God became disgusted with them.
Not only that, God had to deal with their sinfulness according to His wrath. In doing so, He did not allow them to step inside the Promised Land. That’s right; God refused an entire generation to step foot into this new Land. God did not allow a soul to enter for they blatantly disregarded His authority by choosing to ignore his decrees.
God desired what was spiritually best for these people, but they had their intentions placed above the will of God, His direction, and desires.
Fast forward to today.
What has changed?
Nothing has changed with the state of lost and wayward hearts. Many choose to openly ignore God or count His edicts as suggestions. God cannot simply ignore the wicked, the sinful state of souls and rampant disbelief. After a time, God will remove His direction and protection, and without a spiritual about-face, this separation will last for all eternity
