Do Not be A Grudge

2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV) Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

I am sure you are all familiar with a story made into a movie, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.  It is a favorite among many, young and old, and watched throughout the Christmas season.  It portrays a man who had a critical spirit in a season meant for generous giving.  While this story does not present the gospel message of God, there are things we can learn from it.

This scripture verse above speaks about a grudgeful giver. Such a giver is one who counts his every penny and gives to others not at all or sparingly.  Often such a person has a small heart with high expectations in the giving of others.  Often it is true that he or she wants more from others than they are willing to give.  In other words, such a person can be a ‘spiritual grinch.”

Indeed, you know that the world watches Christians regularly, especially in this season meant to celebrate the virgin birth of Jesus Christ.  They will see hypocritical living among professing Christians and at work in lost hearts.

Any act or service reluctantly offered to others is marked as coming from a selfish heart, especially noted by lost souls are selfish Christian tendencies prominent in the life of a professing believer.  I hope you are not a “spiritual scrooge” in this season celebrating the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, especially with many chances to offer God’s salvation message to others.
