Do You Know Where You Will Spend Eternity?
Matthew 15:1-2 (KJB) Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, 2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
The Pharisees were busy asking pointed “religious” questions and were consumed with worry about men who chose to observe traditions. Perhaps these men were too busy worrying about choices made by others rather than taking precious time for considering the condition of their own heart and spiritual health.
Choosing to observe familiar traditions is certainly a popular choice a man can easily make. However, choosing to follow a tradition often has nothing to do with serving God. Rather it is choosing to follow the ways of man. Savoring and serving God should be in the forefront of every professing child of God with fun traditions bringing up the rear of their time and concern.
Really, when you get down to spiritual brass tacks, there is only one spiritually valuable question that can be asked which is of great eternal importance. This question in the verse above does not have any eternal weight or relevance.
Do You Know Where You Will Spend Eternity? This the ultimate question that every man should ask himself and others about him in this world? The answer to this question is the basis for determining his or her spiritual health, his or her address for all eternity, and ultimately answers if he or she personally knows God.
Don’t get in a heated discussion or debate with others about traditions they recognize in this world. Certainly, a man can make his own choices. It is always pertinent to ask a person do you know where you will spend eternity? For this question may change the perpetual lean of his or her spiritual heart condition.
