Do You Love Others Enough to Tell Them the Truth?
Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities. (Psalm 141:5 KJV)
David describes the smiting of righteous men as an act of kindness. He said he would rather be “spiritually thumped” by righteous men for the purpose of being reproved, than be accepted by ungodly men who routinely place their trust in falsehoods and idols rather than placing their trust in God.
David understood that being “hit” with the truth will sometimes hurt. It is actually a kind and loving gesture to biblically correct a brother or sister in Christ who has strayed away from God. Even if discovering the truth will inflict pain it is best to biblically present the truth complete with a sprinkling of prayer, empathy, and concern for the spiritual welfare of the other person.
