Happy Thanksgiving 2021, Praise God; we have so many blessings to be thankful for every day!
Ears Ringing With Disaster
2 Kings 21:10-12 (KJV) And the LORD spake by his servants the prophets, saying, Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols: Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle.
Just imagine this horrible message hitting the ears of these men—a statement from God so dreadful that it caused their ears to tingle. It is important to note that God is so good, but His message to Judah and Jerusalem here in context was not a good report for them. It concerns the flagrant sins of Manasseh while serving as King of Judah. Sometimes people in power think they can get away with blatant wickedness, but God must address all corruption, whether a person is a no-name or a prominent person.
Indeed, you have received terrible news tugging at your heart and mind a time or two. Death of a loved one, looming financial disaster, or hearing that loved ones chose to resist the saving message of God. Though none of these examples are pleasant, imagine, if you can, receiving gut-wrenching news from God concerning your future as a result of sin at work in your life.
Undoubtedly you know that God has no new news to reveal. Still, we can and should locate several recorded accounts throughout the canon of scripture where God holds an evil individual accountable immediately for his wickedness. These lessons we should be familiar with as we walk with God. Though at times consequences for sin are not instant, you can be sure that God will serve His penalty to all guilty parties in His timing and way, whether it be now or later.
Today and each day, we should stand in awe of God and thankful and blessed for His great love and mercy for us despite our many failures. Choosing to confess our sin, shortcomings, and failures to God delights Him. Spiritual humbleness allows His peace and harmony to flow instead of warnings about our future resonating in our ears.
