God gives and God Takes Away
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. (Job 1:20-21 KJV)
Godly mourning for Job involved these three things: renting his mantle, shaving his head, and finally falling down in worship of God. Mourning today often takes a different twist, pointing towards the needs and desires of man rather than serving to worship in thankfulness the goodness and grace of God.
Job acknowledged everything he was and had come from the hand of God. Job knew that he had nothing apart from that which God had graciously given him. Further, if God saw fit to remove everything Job had in this life he would still fall down and worship Him.
