God Was Grieved
Genesis 6:6-8 (KJB) And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
God was grieved about the spiritual state of humanity and the affairs in this world. Every person was nothing but evil. Therefore, The Lord changed His mind about humanity, whom He had declared “good,” just a few generations prior.
God sorrowed because of the rampant slavery to serving the flesh, rather than a hankering for truth. Because of this wicked state of heart, God chose to destroy every person alive on this earth. Every person that is, except Noah.
The word “But” in verse eight changes everything. God decided to destroy all the people He created, that is except Noah, who was the only person to find favor in His eyes. Noah was different. His spiritual state was in agreement with God. Rather than grieving God, Noah desired truth and brought God delight rather than grief.
Sin is always serious business. Choosing sin is to purposely walk along an avenue of destruction and always concludes with grief and certain death. Like Noah, on the other hand, choosing God is apart from sin, in spiritual agreement with God, and the only pathway to living forever.
