God With Us
Matthew 1:23 (KJB) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
God revealed the fulfillment of His prophecy with details about the birth of a child. He was to be born of a virgin. This fact was a miracle, certainly not one which was could be fully understood. In fact, born of a virgin was unheard of.
Secondly, a name was revealed for this child. Emmanuel, which means God is with us. This name implied that God was with them. This name was in addition to the other names used to describe the divine nature of this child as found in Isaiah 9:6.
The ancient people must have marveled and anticipated the arrival of this special child, while the existing king became edgy and fearful of His arrival.
The time of his much-anticipated birth was drawing near. His was to be an extraordinary birth (in its nature but not according to the simplicity of his surroundings). He was to be given a name Emmanuel, which means “God with us…”
