Godly Sorrow Ushers in Eternal Life
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. (2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV)
There are two kinds of sorrow at work in this world.
One is a sorrow manufactured by circumstances. Good circumstances bring a time of sadness and tears inevitably followed by a change in condition bringing happiness and rather than sadness.
The second kind of sorrow links together salvation with godly sadness for sin. It has an eternal purpose and view of sin which agrees with God.
One sorrow brings eternal repentance to the heart about the nature of sin.
The other sorrow brings worldly sadness, but only for a moment in time. It is eventually replaced by happiness according to fluctuating conditions of life. It creates a never ending circle gaining momentum according to changing winds of the world.
One sorrow brings death.
The other sorrow ushers in eternal life.
