God’s Enlightenment About Forgiveness
Matthew 18:21-22 (KJB) Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
Poor Peter, he was so impatient, edgy, and often downright doggedly dramatic. Forgiveness must have been so hard for him to understand and act upon in his life.
Many of us are a lot like Peter. That is the sad truth. Forgiveness is a hard pill to swallow for most of us. Wow, God does not only expect us to forgive others, but God says for us to forgive, and forgive, and forgive others, until seven times seven.
Forgiveness is offering an unending pardon to other sinners just like us. As God forgave me, I forgive you, you forgive me and others. Forgiveness is a circle that can keep on turning over and over again. That is if we continue to forgive each other. Often, we like to hold onto the sin of another rather than letting it go. When we hold a grudge against another before we know it bitter roots sprout up in our heart and affects our relationship with God and others.
No matter when, how, and why another person sins against us God calls for us to forgive and forget a spiritual breech lodged against us just as He has divinely forgiven us our grievous sin. That is a big undertaking that only the supernatural presence of God can successfully bring about in our life as we choose to lean upon Him.
