God’s Grace Brings Glory in Any Circumstance
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10 KJV)
Spiritual and physical brokenness is an opportunity for God to shine in us and through us. Often in the weakness of our flesh we can see troubling times as a “Oh woe is me” pity party time. Our vision gets stuck focusing on the here and now, rather than choosing to glance at our circumstances and concentrating at the goodness and grace of God at work in our life.
God cannot help somebody who “has it all together.” God’s holiness can only be illuminated through those who are broken and spiritually shattered beyond the point of being able to do anything for themselves. Trials and troubles in the life of anyone who professes a relationship with God are openings for His presence to shine like a stained glass window towards others in our midst.
Paul is such a wonderful biblical example who was inspired of God to write this beautiful and encouraging verse. His life mirrored the supernatural power of God in the midst of imprisonment, harrowing situations, danger, and physical difficulties. Paul definitely knew about the power and presence of God. He was able to glory in any circumstance, despite the danger because he knew that God was His strength and stability in the midst of his own human weakness.
