Gossip And Evil Speaking
James 4:11-12 (KJV) Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
You are skating on thin ice with God if you do not step up to control what comes out of your mouth, especially harmful is gossip concerning another. In these scripture verses, God calls judgemental words dished towards others evil. Yes, gossip and evil speaking against another is both hurtful and harmful.
It is easy for a sincere professing Christian to step out of his God-given nature and utter hateful words against another when standing in the flesh. All of us indeed go through times and seasons of life where we speak unkindly towards another. However, what is significant is that we can come before God and seek forgiveness for the times we speak before we consider the harm it causes others and how it dishonors God.
Each of us should aim to gain control of our mouth and to stop uttering foolish words and gossip aimed towards others. In those times we fail, it is great to know we can come straight to God and allow Him to right our verbal wrongs and to seek peace with those we have offended.
