1 Timothy 1:15 (KJB) This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Paul clearly understood his humble position and great spiritual need and was inspired to pen this eye-opening verse of truth!
Paul was testifying about the old nature of sin and rebellion at work in his heart as he lived apart from the supernatural power of Jesus Christ. It is God who saved Paul from himself and set him apart from this world to live unto the new nature of God alive and dwelling inside his softened heart.
However, there was a time when Paul lived as he pleased as though there were no such thing as a God who ruled and reigned and whom he ultimately had to give an answer to. Paul was suddenly knocked down to his knees as the bright prodding light of God shined upon him and softened his heart in this “roadway to Damascus” supernatural event.
Paul’s heart condition was revealed and he saw himself for who he was “chief of sinners”. Paul had spent an inordinate amount of time living in great opposition to God. After seeing the light of truth he chose to live a new life in submission to the will and way of God!
