Hear and Beware
Matthew 24:3-4 (KJB) And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
The disciples were pondering what Jesus had told them. Then they posed three serious minded questions, when, where, and how would His coming take place? These men of God were perplexed with all that Jesus had preached and taught to them and could not make sense of it.
Sometimes it is hard for a professing child of God to get past the many cares and concerns of this world and simply open his mind and heart to digest the truths of God. A man naturally likes to be able to taste, feel, see, hear, and smell the Truth. In our flesh, we operate more like a doubting Thomas or an impulsive like Peter, perhaps even failing to drink in timeless truths of God because of our sway towards our natural inclinations rather than opting to be more like Mary who chose to find rest at His feet.
However, even in a time of peace and rest, just as Jesus warned in these verses, each of us must choose to pay close attention to every teaching and preaching we allow to soak into our mind and heart. Jesus gave these men stern warning about what they hear and learn and to let no man feed their mind with false teaching or prey on them with deceptive tactics.
Our minds and hearts need to be wide open for the working of the power and presence of Jesus, but shuttered tight against the tricks and deception of the god of this world for Jesus will return to this earth soon.
