Heartfelt Devotion to God is a Godly Man’s Priority
Luke 9:23 (KJB) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Many people living in this world are devoted to a person, or a principle, or have a passion for a good and moral cause or have a desire to “do the right thing ” or to passionately plead for the “right to have or do something.”
Having a firm resolve to stand up for a heart filled passion or a cause is great and necessary, however, it is not the most important thing for any man or woman to devote his or her time to fulfilling as they sojourn in this world. It is good and worthy, but there is something even better.
These same “cause worthy people” may also have respect for a church and its pastor, but may or may not have any working heart knowledge of God. They may be familiar with God, but do not know Him on a personal spiritual level.
How do I know this?
The Bible tells us that Knowing God requires both a profession of faith and a personal choice to actively follow things of God. It involves a personal choice, or a cost (Luke 9:23) to pick up one’s cross and follow God rather than standing up for people and passions both popular and palatable in this world without any personal decision or action. IF a person is interested in pursuing passions of this world but not interested in pursuing the things of God, they are waiving their own embellished cross rather than clinging to the cross of Calvary and relying upon the power and presence of God.
Serving God rather than serving one’s self-interest is a personal cost that a genuine professing man or woman of God is willing to bear with a heartfelt devotion by choosing to serve God according to His will and way.
