Hitting Spiritual Rock Bottom
God cannot work in our lives until we see our own lowly spiritual estate or position in life. It requires hitting spiritual rock bottom and seeing a need for His presence and power at work in our life. Mankind often chooses to operate according to self-will rather than God’s will becoming stoically entrenched in our own inflated high opinion with some even go as far as feeling God is lucky to have them living upon this earth!
This high minded attitude has caused many to stumble through life in the limited power of man in spiritual death as they serve the god of this world, who boldly promotes a philosophical thinking pattern that man is something special and many are riding high in the saddle on a self-flattering “high horse” rather than meekly coming to an understanding or view of sin nature in agreement with God that what Jesus did on the cross is special; not any works or achievements emanating out of sinful mankind!
For those who continue to believe the honest and simple ways of a holy God are overrated, antiquated or not fully applicable or relevant to living in this world of today do not understand the God of the Bible. Some who outwardly profess having a personal relationship in God and hold to the belief that society has changed progressively for the better and that some antiquated biblical passages must change to better accommodate the whims and flow of the this world are likely spiritually dead or living quite amiss in their relationship with God.
The reality according to God’s Word: a high opinion of self is blatantly arrogant and prideful. An inflated view from high upon a self-made mountain top is an attitude which stands in opposition to divine godly traits such as holiness and humbleness Jesus modeled humility and righteousness when He lived upon this earth and His own spiritual family should bare out these characteristics in their life as well.
The Bible teaches that living peculiar, or standing out in a mind of lowliness, is operating in stark contrast to the world. Standing up for the things of God, not simply being a spiritual doormat or fitting in with the puffed up and pride filled crowd of this world eager to identify with popular beliefs and trends, is a godly directive to follow in life.
Being spiritually fashionable with God is operating apart from what is popular in this world; bearing delectable fruits grown in the spirit rather than producing rotting fruit in this world which draws flies.
Self-will is sin driven from the god of this world while God’s will is spiritually driven from a heart cleansed from serving sin.
Are you standing atop a mountain of pride loaded with self-will; or living according to God’s will producing delectable fruit according to His great riches and mercy at work in your life?
