Honor the Hoary Head
Leviticus 19:32 (KJB) Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.
A hoary-headed man is a testimony to the nature and character of God. Sadly, though, it seems that both men and women rush out to remove any inkling of graying from appearing in their hair. The world often makes it seem as if graying hair and the showing our age is a bad omen or sign, or perhaps a physical picture painting the fact that death will certainly be knocking at the door.
However, the Bible tells us that the wearing a badge of gray hair is an honor bestowed upon an older and mature man or woman of God. Gray hair is both a look of maturity in the aging process and distinguishes a man of God as being knowledgeable in spiritual things. Great respect is to be shown for the elders in God’s church. It is a sign to remind us that our own physical death is nearing, but a man or woman of God is not afraid of death, rather he or she is looking forward to it with great expectancy.
Though gray hair is often portrayed as a reminder of the menace of growing older in this world, the Bible gives us a much different perspective about the eternal honor and character associated with the of wearing of a badge of gray hair.
