I Can Do, Not?
Philippians 4:13 (KJB) I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
So many people use this verse out of context to imply that they can accomplish anything.
A person can indeed achieve anything when God is involved, often people leave the working and will of God out of the equation, thereby attempting to crawl out to the end of the branch all on their merit.
Then, if the branch weakens or breaks, this person cries out to God for immediate help, caught in an unpleasant and perhaps dangerous situation and needing rescue.
This verse speaks to nothing being impossible inside the will of God. The “I can do…” must be aligned with the presence and strength of God. Indeed, you know that all things are possible, especially with God driving and directing.
God wants us to rest and rely on Him and allow His presence and strength to work and will in our life. If we elect to go out on our skills and accomplishments, God may not be involved in the details, and we may well find that we cannot achieve what we thought we could ourselves but need the indwelling power and presence of Christ.
