I Hope You Know
Romans 6:16 (KJV) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
The Apostle Paul was clearing up some confusion about serving sin and obeying God. Though you may know that these two situations lie at opposing ends of the spiritual spectrum, sometimes it confounds folks willing to sit on the proverbial fence over seemingly gray areas in this world.
The first consideration to look at concerning this is the addicting manner of sin. A person takes a small venture towards a proverbial gray fence; satan is right there to guide this wayward heart as he perhaps falls to the other side of the railing. It is important to note that once he falls, choosing to sin is so fun that it is hard to recognize the pending danger he now finds himself. Once a soul realizes that he has fallen head over heels into satan’s plan, likely he has been drug and sunk into the mire of sin at work on this earth. In other words, he finds himself in a pit of sin.
On the other hand, a soul who chooses to follow God and is determined not to fall into a myriad of distractions that satan has set out for him and chooses to keep his eyes on God. Doing so alleviates the temptation to sin against God. Sticking with God makes telling satan NO so much simpler!
Ultimately, falling into sin rather than serving God is a trap. God’s Word tells us that choosing to sin is like falling into a pit of mud, impossible to get out of on your own (Psalm 40:2). However, like David, we know that nothing is impossible when God is involved!
