Romans 12:1-2 (KJB) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We live in an age of an overabundance of information. There is an excess of data concerning both world based and spiritual matters readily available. Therefore, the growing spiritual heart problem is not for lack of available knowledge. The problem lies in the quality of the data, what a person chooses to do with the material, and whether it has the power to renew the natural state of his or her mind.
If you walk into any bookstore, the shelves are full of modern Bibles which have been “improved” with information updated for better comprehension. The truth is that any person can, with God’s intervention, comprehend His revelations, truths, and prophecies for it is timeless and preserved forever. It is not necessary to rework it, and in fact, that is spiritually counterproductive. To add or take away from what God has divinely revealed for our learning and application as is addressed in Revelation in 22:18. While it is true that some modernization can be useful when new information comes to light scientifically speaking, updating God’s Word is a big no-no!
The sad truth is that there is a vast selection of secular books that implore us to look within ourselves rather than up to God for answers to our trials and troubles in an attempt to move people away from knowing and serving God. It is vital in this age where such material is readily available that each person learns to weed misinformation and dark spiritual weeds out of the way of spiritual progress. Yes, it is crucial that every child of God sift through this plethora of available data with the filter God provides in discerning and determining what to save from that tossed in the trashcan of life.
Having access to much information of this world does nothing in transforming the spiritual condition of the heart. The heart of mankind is not changed by knowing information or in absorbing higher academics but can only change through the transforming Truth, power, and presence of God at work in the heart of the situation inside a softened heart.
