Inwardly Scrubbed and Polished
Mark 7:8-9 (KJB) For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
Jesus spoke to these men straight forward- accusing them of following after religious rituals and traditions while setting aside weightier matters concerning God and forgoing any thought towards their own spiritual well-being.
People today still attempt to “clean themselves up” through vicarious means of their own doing all the while ignoring or suppressing the precepts and commandments of God. The reality is that nobody can scrub themselves spiritually clean as it takes the supernatural power of God to “whitewash” the condition of man’s darkened heart. Man can attempt to clean up his life through changing his habits or “turning over a new leaf” in his life but no superficial changes will make one ounce of difference to his relationship with God.
Either man has possession of a spiritual relationship fueled by faith with God through His Son Jesus Christ, or he does not. A personal relationship with God is the necessary ingredient in perpetually changing man’s life, both inwardly and outwardly and going from existing spiritually dead in his sin to being spiritually alive in Christ forever.
If man does not possess a relationship with God, he will remain spiritually dead both now and forever always trying to be a good man or woman and clinging to traditions and rituals of man will do nothing for quickening and cleaning his putrid heart condition.
Clinging to the commandments of God and determining to follow His will is the only solution which cleans both the inward filth in the heart and applies an outward supernatural polish through a conduit of a personal relationship with God.
