Is Your Heart Sealed or Soiled?

And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) (2 Peter 2:7-8 KJV)

The Bible clearly says “And delivered just Lot…”  It does not say any other men were delivered but rather states only Lot was delivered from this dreadful atmosphere of great sin and wickedness.

All other men who practiced this abominable evil lifestyle near Lot perished in their sin.  However, God chose to save Lot who was the Nephew of Abraham.

Yes, God chose to deliver Lot.  Why, you may ask, why was Lot delivered while no other men were saved?  There were a couple of factors at work in Lots life that made an eternal difference.

One, Lot was kin of Abraham.  Abraham was a righteous man in God’s eyes.  The righteousness of Abraham had a positive influence on Lot’s life.

Secondly, Lot was Vexed (not possessed but oppressed) from great sin surrounding him.

Individuals who are righteous in their heart can be vexed, temnpted, or provoked by an evil spirit.  Jesus Christ was tempted three times by the devil and Job who was vexed in his spirit (Job 27:22).

However, the child of God cannot ever be possessed by evil demon(s) in their heart.

Regenerate man, who has been spiritually quickened alive in his heart, but living a backslidden life, cannot be infiltrated by darkness of the god of this world in his heart, but his behavior can be influenced by the sin and wickedness surrounding him.

Yes!   The company you keep can greatly influence the choices and decisions you make.  Many easily fall into divers temptations when living in the midst of a sinful atmosphere.

The Bible also gives us many examples of men who were operating with an evil spirit in their heart including Judas whose life was ruled by the spirit of darkness (Luke 22:3-6)

The man living in the Gadarenes was also possessed of a demonic spirit (Mark 5:1-9) until the power of God set him free from the evil spirit!

takeupyourcrossredocmclearThe spiritually quickened alive man dwelling amongst sin can be oppressed and vexed by the evil nature of sin flourishing in their immediate atmosphere (1 John 5:18, 1John 4:4) but never totally controlled or influenced in the heart by an evil sinful nature, or spiritually possessed, because his heart is sealed by the power of God (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).
