Jesus Christ Did Not Seek Relief
Matthew 26:53 (KJB) Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
It is not necessary to get caught up in any numbers game to determine exactly what number a legion of angels involves. All Peter, and us, really need to understand is that Jesus Christ could have called on His Father to send an army of angels to remove this situation of certain physical death from His life.
Jesus Christ chose to follow through on the will of God for His life. He was obedient to death on the cross. However, God did not tie Him to the cross in some manner so that He had no way of escape from this kind of horrible death if He chose to remove Himself from following through with the will of God.
Jesus Christ could have called for an army of soldiers, but instead, chose to obediently remain on the cross ushering in His physical death so that all mankind could choose to have eternal life.
