Jesus Had Spiritual Growth and Maturity
Luke 2:51-52 (KJB) And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
The Bible does not have a lot to say about the early years of Jesus, but what it does reveal is powerful. His growing years are not chronicled in a plethora of details; however, we do know that He increased in His spiritual wisdom and matured in His faith. Notice that this verse does not indicate that Jesus grew precipitously in the knowledge of this world.
Many people today are banking on their success by grasping plenty of higher learning opportunities in this world rather than focusing more intently on garnering spiritual wisdom of God and His Word. Certainly, biblical learning is not as popular and palatable as feeding their dark spirit.
Jesus continued to grow and mature in things of God, not man. There is a multitude of growing opportunities available in this world for the heart led child of God. Spiritual growth does not depend upon any works of man but depends solely upon the supernatural power and presence of God at work inside the heart of a man.
Spiritual growth is both expected and certain in the heart condition of a genuine child of God.
Jesus Christ, who was also God, was subject both to the spiritual authority of His Father God, and the earthly authority of leaders in this small town, and rules in the temple which was in his small town of Nazareth. Jesus was also importantly encouraged and held in prayer by his earthly mom, Mary. Jesus also had a meaningful relationship as well with his earthly father Joseph who taught him his carpentry knowledge and rightly influenced His life, though he is not mentioned in this scripture verse.
Jesus had the best of both worlds: a loving mother, godly leaders in this world, and ultimately God’s spiritual influence divinely at work in His heart and mind. He continued to grow and mature in spiritual things as he sojourned in this world according to the will of His Father.
