Joseph Acted Justly
Matthew 1:18-19 (KJB) Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
Pregnancy before marriage was not socially popular or acceptable in early biblical times. Today hardly anyone bats an eye when a young woman becomes pregnant before marriage. Back then it would have caused the young lady to be shunned or treated as an outcast, disowned, and her husband left with a thousand questions.
Joseph must have been stunned to find his bride Mary would bear a child. This situation likely would have been a marriage breaker, in ancient biblical times, or today. However, when the Holy Spirit is involved in a supernatural fashion in untoward circumstances, His proposed end can come to fruition through any perceived barriers.
Joseph was visited by an angel and the Holy Spirit assured him about the situation with Mary. Joseph was not willing to make her an example in the eyes of the public as he may have first warranted. Joseph understood this situation was a private matter between himself, Mary, and the Lord not open for any opposing public interpretation or opinion.
If the Lord’s angel said the situation was okay that was enough for Joseph!
Joseph was supernaturally calmed and comforted as any fears were silenced in his heart. Joseph allowed God’s peculiar plans to come to fruition despite any reservations he may have entertained at the beginning of this matter.
