Joseph Knew Mary Not
Matthew 1:25 (KJB) And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
This succinct verse reveals three important truths about the birth of Jesus.
It also reveals the godliness and obedience at work in the heart of Joseph his earthly father.
One, Joseph knew Mary not. What? How could a child be born to Mary and her husband had known her not? Certainly, this points to the truth of the supernatural nature of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ and the truth that Joseph was not the natural father of Jesus.
Second, this was the first-born son of Mary who had not given birth to any other children. This truth perfectly fulfilled ancient Old Testament prophecy.
Lastly, it gave His divine surname. He was to be called JESUS. This is the name to which every knee will bow, yes that means you and I and every other person will bow to JESUS CHRIST. There is eternal power and the deity of God in His name. This name revealed His relationship as one with God.
Joseph was a godly man who heard God, understood the gravity of the situation, thereby preserving the integrity of Mary (who was to be his wife) by immediately being obedient through faith when faced with this divine revelation of the pregnancy and supernatural birth of His Son Jesus Christ.
