Joseph Thought on These Things
Matthew 1:20 (KJB) But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
None of us can even begin to imagine exactly what went through the mind of Joseph upon finding out Mary, his soon to be wife, was with child. The Bible does not go into any detail about his state of mind concerning this unforeseen situation.
However, we can take away from the few details recorded in God’s Word that Joseph was a man who did not overreact, or to become dramatic, angry, or to finger point or place blame upon Mary. Joseph seemed to take this startling news in a quiet manner, pondering about this highly unusual and perplexing situation.
Joseph was a godly man with remarkable poise. He sought quiet contemplation in this weighty situation. He chose to listen to God and be comforted by His angelic messenger rather than allowing any doubts, fear, or anger to gain a foothold in his life. Joseph displayed complete trust in the working of God in this remarkable situation.
