Joy and Affliction in Serving God
2 Timothy 1:8 (KJB) Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God.
A sincere man of God is a continual servant of God despite whether it be blessings or untoward circumstances which envelope his life.
Timothy is imploring children of God to stand strong and sure in his relationship with God. This means that a man standing up for God will always face both times of accolades as well as seasons of persecution fortified with spiritually stout and unwavering beliefs.
Certainly, Timothy had several instances where he observed and perhaps took part in adverse times alongside the Apostle Paul who faced many persecutions and dangers in his staunch service for advancing the presence and power of God.
Think also about the earthly life of Jesus.
One week He is being cheered by a large gathered crowd and the next week He is being jeered and sentenced to hang on the cross to death.
The opinion of a man can change and fluctuate according to his current state of affairs while a man of God will be able to bear sowing seeds and serving the gospel message despite the conditions at hand in this world.
