Judas Sold Out
Mark 14:10-11 (KJV) And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them. And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
Oh, for the love of money, sadly, lost and wayward hearts will betray another soul. In this case, as detailed above, Judas was eager to divulge the location of Jesus Christ. Judas sunk to the deepest despair in taking the thirty silver pieces to betray Jesus Christ’s location for His arrest and future death at the Roman soldiers’ hands.
This deception was both contrived and acted out by Judas, assisted by the Roman government and their foot soldiers. Ultimately this incident was allowed to take place by God. Yes, this prayer scene and His apprehension in the garden were necessary to usher in the will and way of God. Judas sold out Jesus Christ for what he perceived as a convenient gain. However, once Judas understood the magnitude of this situation and the weight of his choice, he could not forgive himself for this filthy spiritual monstrosity and eventually took his own life, spiritually lost before God. The truth is that God would have forgiven him for his betrayal, but Judas was not sorry before God.
Judas sold out Jesus Christ for a mere thirty pieces of silver. While we may look aghast at this, we must also consider that we, too, can be willing to sell out for a perceivable gain rather than to follow Jesus Christ’s direction, and we fail miserably, falling into the pull of our flesh for a dark season. Thank God Jesus Christ’s willing sacrifice provides for us an eternal escape route filled with His mercy and grace, pulling us away from the darkness of this world.
