Like Sodom and Gomorrah
Isaiah 1:9-10 (KJB) Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah. 10 Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
The prophet Isaiah spoke about the wicked times in which he lived. He likened it to the atmosphere and spiritual darkness which was at work in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Certainly, a man can make the same statement today.
Not only did Isaiah speak of the wicked times in which he lived but he gave the spiritual recipe for changing this evil at work among leaders. These men needed to hear and apply the word of God. Certainly, doing so does not mean hearing God’s Word in one ear and allowing it to escape right out the other ear. It requires both personal acknowledgment and application.
Hearing the word of God, then and now means to hear God’s truth and properly apply it to their life. The very words of God are more than an opinion. It is the Truth of God which never falters or changes. Secondly, not only do rulers need to hear it but the people of every nation need to hear and personally apply His Truth to their own life.
The sin that affected Sodom and Gomorrah is nothing new today. These evil and wicked sensual acts have been around since ancient times. God destroyed these two ancient cities with fire because of the presence of this sin. God will not allow this evil to continue on forever in this world.
Just like in ancient times, God will not allow repeated evil and wicked acts to continue. He will remove sin from this world at His perfect timing. There will always be a remnant of believers alive and kicking in this world as long as this earth remains standing.
