Like Spilt Water
2 Samuel 14:14 (KJV) For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.
This scripture is a unique verse about death that considers the brevity of life like water spilled on the ground, or death that comes abruptly and not expected. Here this verse is recorded about the unexpected death of Ammon. Ammon chose to live a sin-filled life apart from God, and God decided to take his life.
You see, if we all got what we deserved, because of sin, each of us would all face certain and immediate death. Once death comes, it is not possible to roll back time. Once physical death occurs, eternity awaits every soul, whether it is heaven or hell.
Though I know, you might point out about lives that resurrected in ancient biblical times at the voice of Jesus Christ, beckoning them from the clutch of death, like happened to Lazarus and many others, with many suffering from chronic or abrupt physical illness. The truth is that we do not live in a time where Jesus walks this earth and brings any person back from physical death. Nor do we live in a season where followers of Jesus speak through faith and perform life-preserving miracles. These kinds of wonders and gifts did happen in ancient biblical times, but followers of Jesus cannot speak life back into a tent of flesh this day.
Though some medical and Science lovers may want to argue the point that through CPR, professionals can spare a physically ill person from the onset of v-Fib and asystole, thereby preventing his or her sudden death, however, the truth is that God does not work that way. He ultimately controls the timing of both life and death (Revelation 1:18) for all souls. He alone allows any resuscitation efforts through the hands of humanity to occur; He also allows the end to come to life, all according to His will.
Once physical death comes upon a soul, his or her life is like spilled water, which cannot be gathered back into the glass. When the physical end of life comes knocking, there is no stopping it or preventing it, if it is God’s will for the end of life to occur.
