Like The Point of A Diamond

Jeremiah 17:1 (KJB) The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars.

The Sin of Judah is described for us in this verse:

written with a pen of iron and with the point of a diamond

This candid illustration points to the truth that sin is hard and pointed and engraved upon the heart.  Yes, sin is natural to lost hearts and etched continuously upon every lost soul.  Like the brilliant point of a diamond, sin is carved into the heart.

Choosing to sin does not just leave immediate effects, but repeated sin cuts deep grooves into the heart and can only be relieved by personally meeting with God.  However, to some, sin seems petty and harmless.  However, there is nothing at all simple about the presence of sin.  Sin always wreaks havoc upon every life that it touches.

The truth is that the heart of every lost soul is bombarded with sin, and only God holds a lasting cure.  While this verse from the book of Jeremiah is speaking collectively about the sin of a nation, it also can serve to describe the effect of personal sin upon a heart.

The presence of sin weighs a person down and wounds the soul.  Sin always stands in the way of any meaningful prayerful communication with God. Sin can both individually and collectively affect an entire nation.  Like the sharp point of a diamond, sin cuts deep into the soul.  Each individual must personally open the gift of God, and together spiritually regenerated individuals change the face of a nation from darkness to shine for God.
