Lost All Things, Gained Christ
Philippians 3:8-10 (KJB) Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.
The Apostle Paul speaks candidly about his many earthly losses and, at the same time, celebrates possessing the knowledge of God above any such losses experienced in this world. Anybody who is biblically literate knows that Paul suffered harrowing circumstances, loss, and injuries in his trek across this land, introducing Christ to a lost and dying world.
Paul goes further with this recollection to compare anything that He lost to be as dung as compared to winning through faith in the work of Christ. What a statement, the Apostle Paul was not discouraged or beat down amid any adverse state of affairs or suffering; instead, he was encouraged by challenging life circumstances and imprisonment. He invites other souls to walk with Christ in this wicked world.
I think you will agree that Paul is not speaking out of both sides of his mouth concerning his many hardships and experiences. Instead, he is using his life events to challenge us and to also live for Christ, too, despite the state of our immediate conditions, gaining sweet fellowship with Christ forever.
