Lost Hearts Not Capable of Hearing or Seeing Truth
Matthew 13:15 (KJV) For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
These verses, inspired by God, give us an illustration that conjures up spiritually lost humans physically alive in this world. I am sorry I cannot mince words here, or try to explain God’s teaching and intention in this verse apart from the wickedness at work in this world then and today.
The evil spirit at work I this world does shut up the ears, closes the eyes, and harden the heart condition toward the true message and eternal gift of God. Without being able to see, hear, or process His salvation message, a naturally wicked soul will choose to continue on his or her path in alignment with the god of this world.
In contrast, a spiritually softened heart can hear God’s message, allow it to permeate his or her heart, and see the handiwork of God on the landscape of this world and to come in eternity. Why, because their new heart condition is eternally healed from the war of wickedness naturally at work in this world.
It takes a supernatural heart-healing work of God to change the natural condition of lost souls. Only in personally grasping His revelation about His gift of salvation can any person enjoy sweet eternal fellowship with Him.
