Love God Rather than Lust for Things
1 John 2:15-16 (KJB) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
God commands us to love not this world or things found in this world. That is a tall directive and impossible on our own!
Obeying this command from God depends upon the condition of our inner spiritual heart condition, our vision, and the presence or lack thereof of faith. Only God can spiritually quicken alive a heart as a man is propelled by the fuel of personal faith he chooses to place in the finished work of Calvary.
Yes, obedience, dependence, and application of God’s directives prove and promote the love of God at work in a man’s heart while disobedience, hate, and pride bolster the dark presence of the god of this world at work in a man’s heart.
How easy it is to get caught up in the many spiritual traps and treasures of this world rather than place hope in the sure and eternal things of God. The pleasures of this world are available now and highly desirable to a man’s dead fleshly nature. It is neither natural or simple for a lost man to desire and love the supernatural spiritual things of God.
Spiritually eternal things are only understood by a man who has been spiritually quickened alive by God. God’s power and purpose reside in His promises and future blessings, rather than be present and palpable in the here and now working in this world.
Love things of God and choose to obey His Word rather than fall into lust with the darkness and the many corruptible things found in this world. The things of God will last forever while the things of this world will fade quickly away.
