Lust of The Flesh Woes

1 Kings 11:1-2 (KJB) But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; 2 Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.

“But king Solomon loved many strange women…” This short phrase tells us a lot about the heart condition of King Solomon.  Though this king was wise in many areas, his love for strange women tells us that he lost the battle of his flesh and pride among women.

One must understand what God considers to be strange women.  These are women estranged from God.  In other words, these were evil women who were following the footsteps of the god of this world rather than fellowshipping with God.  God wanted His people to practice separation from evil, such as the company of these wicked women.

God commanded in Deuteronomy Chapter seven for the Israelites to avoid certain named nations upon making entry into the Promised Land.  God did not tell His people to avoid the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites more than once for the sake of being mean, unloving, and hateful.  This was a loving decree of God who always desires His best for people.  God loved them enough to want for them His spiritual best, which in this case included a commandment to depart from wicked women.

King Solomon was a wise man foolishly led by the lust of his flesh to gravitate towards numerous evil women.  These ungodly alliances were a spiritual downfall for King Soloman against God’s best interest for Him.
