Romans 6:12 (KJB) Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Indeed, a sincere child of God is alive to Christ and dead to the desires of his flesh. This verse tells us that a mortal body will continue to pine and posture towards sin in this world. However, a regenerated soul desires what God desires and serves what pleases God, rather than himself despite any craving of his or her flesh.
This spiritual concept is hard for some to comprehend. Why? Because, sadly, misinformed souls want to give lip service to God and then continue to serve their flesh in this world. However, a person cannot profess a personal relationship with God and hold onto his or her favorite sins.
The presence and power of sin will not continue to rule and reign in the life of a sincere child of God. It is all about God- not us, as is recorded in Galatians 2:20-21, for our learning and application. Yes, a genuine child of God will desire to please and obey God and to put away his or her old life and the desires of the flesh.
Serving God rather than choosing to serve our old sin nature is, first of all, a position or standing in Christ. However, this stand involves day by day and even minute by minute decisions of submission and obedience to God. This willing compliance happens over our earthly life as we elect to serve God rather than the lusts of our flesh.
