Exodus 1:7-8 (KJV) And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them. Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.
Egypt enjoyed Joseph’s leadership, and because of his headship, and most of all, favor from God, the land was richly blessed. God’s richness came to the people even in a time of severe drought throughout the land, for God took care of the people.
However, as is recorded in God’s Word, a new king is now ruling over this land. The change in leadership ushers in a different management style and a leader who knew not God. One person can change the atmosphere of a family, business, or even a country.
You know how it is with a new incoming president, a different boss at your job, or a change in leadership in a group. New authority figures often mean changed expectations, leadership styles, and rules that are not familiar or favorable to God. In this particular governance change, God removed His favor from the land, for this new leader knew not Joseph.
