No Continuing City Here
Hebrews 13:14 (KJB) For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
When something is continuing it never stops. It is ongoing, or ever-present.
“For here have we no continuing city …”
The word “here” is an important word in this verse. It refers to the “here” and “now.” Today, here present on this earth.
The lives that we lead in this world do have an expected end. A stopping point, or conclusion. It is true, one day your physical life on this earth will certainly end abruptly. If a physical commencement and final endpoint were all that there was to life, then there would be nothing to look forward to but the waning and the winding down of our life.
However, there is such a thing as a continuing city, but it will not be found on this earth. An eternal city is the coming perpetual kingdom of God. This city will last forever giving every regenerated person hope for the unforeseeable future ahead.
One day you will physically draw your last breath. In the next moment, your spirit will continue to exist in the eternal realm.
Every man, woman, and child innately seek a forever home. It is a city that will last forever. Such a city cannot be found on this earth but can only be found in sweet eternal fellowship with God. Upon his or her physical death or upon the imminent return of Jesus Christ to this earth, a child of God will certainly reside in His continuing city forevermore.
