Matthew 5:40-42 (KJV) And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
So often, we want to box our service to God into a pleasant and manageable prospect. One that we can control and direct on our terms. It is a practice of our flesh to want to warrant control over every detail. You see, many people want to know God and to serve Him, but on their terms and timing.
However, it is a work of God when a person chooses to take a step or two back in faith and allow God to design and direct our steps. These verses lead us not to place limits on God or in our service for His glory and honor. Further, we do not take vengeance on another (that is God’s job), nor are we to be greedy when we can step up and help another in the name of witnessing the character of God. We are to practice kindness and grace, just as God is good to us, even though we do not ever deserve his mercy. We are to live according to God’s principles and fruit as we sojourn in this wicked world.
In other words, we are to be the hands and feet of God towards others in this evil world despite any unprincipled intent or behavior lost hearts may level toward us as we serve and savor God. Indeed, if someone wants to hurt us, sue us, or use us for their gain, we are to rely upon the desires and direction of God to lead us through what seems to be limitless spiritual minefields for God’s way is always in the right direction
